Making Great Strides!
About Our Therpeutic Riding Program
Roberts Woods Farm mission is to provide therapeutic riding and horsemanship lessons to individuals with special needs.
Our team of instructors and volunteers, in partnership with the Icelandic Horse, are dedicated to support our students in their personal and physical development through learning the art of riding.
By providing the unique opportunity of interacting with Icelandic Horses in a therapeutic environment, the team at Roberts Woods Farm aspires to enhance the lives of our students and their families.
Goals of the Therapeutic Riding Program:
- To allow those with limited mobility and/or ambulation the freedom of movement without assistive devices such as wheelchairs and walkers
- To encourage care of the Icelandic horse with the eventual carry-over into self-care skills.
- To normalize tone and movement patterns
- To establish a caring relationship between the rider and the Icelandic horse.
- To increase strength, endurance and balance
- To improve coordination and fine motor skills
- To have fun and learn about horses from the north
